In this first installment of our new video series "How Tight Is Tight?", Colt shows us the best process to ensure that tapered thread fittings are properly installed to avoid the cracks and leaks that can occur when they're under- or over-tightened. Follow the steps below for additional reference:
1. Inspect your tapered fitting threads for any damage, dents, or scratches, which can make installation difficult or create a leak path.
2. Apply thread sealant or PTFE tape to your fitting. Follow the manufacturer specifications always.
3. Thread the tapered fitting to your connector in the vise, and turn until finger tight. To determine the optimal number for turns for your fitting, refer to the Parker product guide here:
